Silver Strikers banged three goals on Saturday to earn maximum points and stretch the lead on top of the table to 28 points. A brace from Zebron Kalima and a header by Emmanuel Allan was what was needed for Silver Strikers to win the match.
The match started on a slow start as both teams tried to keep possession but could not break through to get a shot.
Silver Strikers was the first to show intent as Ernest Petro’s effort hit the bar for a goal kick to the visitors.
The first yellow card of the game went to Lameck Gamphani after a foul on Chimwemwe Chunga. At 41 minutes Gamphani was substituted for Austin Yasin. The two sides went to recess goalless.
The second half started slow just like the first half but at 59 minutes, Kalima broke the deadlock with a volley when he received a square ball from Andrew Joseph. A minute later, Kalima doubled the lead when he received a pass from Yasin who reclaimed possession immediately after the guests restarted play.
The two quick goals disturbed the guests’ game plan as Silver Strikers started breathing fire for a third goal.
Yasin received a caution after he fouled Hermas Masinja.
The guests reacted by bringing in Sholigah Stambuli and Wongani Kaponya for James Lumbe and Chimwemwe Chunga.
Seven minutes from time, the Central Bankers brought in Precious Kapunda for Lassuli Jali. Emmanuel Allan was then introduced three minutes away from time for Andrew Joseph.
In added time, Allan headed home a curling ball from Yasin to put the scores to three. The goal was the last action of the game.
The Coach’s Reaction
First Assistant Coach Mapopa Kent Msukwa said his charges responded well in the second half and praised them for a good performance that earned the team maximum points.
“The boys have shown great character this afternoon. In the first half the teams played a similar game but come second half we told the boys that lets win this and showcase our game plan. We have won today and we are at 28 points now which something to be happy about however there is no time to relax as the competition is stiff this season”, said Msukwa.
