Silver Strikers Youth booked their place in the semifinals of the FED Steel Engineering Under-19 Tournament with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Villa FC at Silver Stadium on Sunday.
Nulu Jana’s decisive strike was what Silver Strikers Youth needed to proceed to the last four of the tournament.
The Area 47 Youth side kept their dream of lifting the title alive after overcoming a stubborn Villa FC side in a tightly contested quarterfinal encounter.
Head coach Rodrick Gonani was delighted with the result, describing it as a deserved reward for the team’s discipline and determination.
“It was a tough encounter and one that produced very few chances. We are happy with the result. We created only a few opportunities, but I am pleased that the boys managed to convert one and defended the lead until the final whistle,” said Gonani.
The coach added that the match highlighted areas that still need improvement as the team prepares for the next stage of the competition.
“The game has exposed some areas that we need to improve. We will continue working on them in training so that the team reaches the desired level ahead of the upcoming fixtures,” he added.
Silver Strikers Youth registered 4 goal attempts, with 3 on target, while Villa FC managed just 1 shot on target throughout the contest.
The Youth team will know their semi-final opponents after the tournament organizers conduct the semi-final draw.
