Silver Strikers head coach Peter Mgangira believes this weekend presents the perfect opportunity for his side to end its wait for a second away victory in the 2026/27 FDH Bank Premiership when the Central Bankers face LUANAR Mitundu at Dedza Stadium on Sunday, July 26.
The Central Bankers travel to Dedza, sitting second on the table with 21 points from 10 matches after a commanding 4-1 victory over Karonga United last weekend. However, despite enjoying a strong start to the campaign, Silver Strikers has only won once away from home.
The Area 47 side won 0-2 away at Champions Stadium in the first match of the league season against Kamuzu Barracks.
Mgangira says his players are determined to change that narrative against the league debutants.
“It has been a very good week. We have almost a full squad. Lumbani missed the previous game against Karonga United because of two yellow cards, but he is back,” said Mgangira.
The Silver Strikers mentor says the level of competition within the squad has given him confidence ahead of the trip to Dedza.
“There is competition in the squad. Every player, when given a chance, is showing that he can do better.”
The coach admitted the absence of attacking midfielder Festus Duwe and Tatenda M’balaka will be felt but expressed confidence in the players available.
“Of course, we will not have Festus Duwe and Tatenda M’balaka, who contribute a lot to the team, and we will miss them. But as I said, all the players are training well and they have shown that they are willing to play and fight for positions,” he added.
Silver Strikers face a LUANAR Mitundu side that is enjoying a respectable debut season in the top flight. The hosts occupy eighth position with 14 points from 10 matches and come into the fixture on the back of a 1-0 away victory over CRECK Sporting Club.
Despite acknowledging the challenge ahead, Mgangira insists his side has travelled with one objective.
“We are playing a side that is in its debut season and, judging by their results, they are a good team. We expect a good game against them. However, we believe we will go out there and get maximum points,” he said.
Sunday’s encounter will be the first-ever FDH Bank Premiership meeting between the two sides following LUANAR Mitundu’s promotion from the National Division League at the end of last season.
