Silver Strikers collected a point away at Zomba Stadium against Mighty Wanderers on Sunday after playing out to a goalless draw after 90 minutes.
Silver Strikers were an unchanged side going into week five of the 2026/27 FDH Premiership as Head Coach Peter Mgangira opted for the same squad that started against Master Football Club last week.
At Zomba Stadium, Mighty Wanderers looked to have a better start against the Central Bankers as the side chased for an early goal that they did not find.
Silver Strikers caught up with the hosts to finish off the first half on a balanced note.
After a few chances in the opening 20 minutes, Wanderers made their first change at 23 minutes, introducing Isaac Kaliati for Peter Ng’ambi, who was stretched out due to injury.
McDonald Lameck and Innocent Shema picked up yellow cards in the first half when the match became too physical.
Our first chance of the match came at 38 minutes when we broke out from the midfield through Ernest Petro, who crossed the ball in for Andrew Joseph. Joseph found the ball in the air and headed towards the goal, but missed the target as he failed to bring it down.
At halftime, Lameck Gamphani and Innocent Shema went out, and in came Uchizi Vunga and Dan Sandukira.
Our second chance came at 52 minutes after we won a throw-in, where Lameck took a throw-in and found Nickson Mwase in the eighteen-yard box, but his header went over the bar.
Wanderers made two changes two minutes later, taking out Rajab Nyirenda and Thierry Samar Tinjong and bringing in Promise Kamwendo and Lameck Mithi.
At the hour mark, a third chance arose as Silver Strikers exchanged good passes from midfield as Zebron Kalima, Uchizi Vunga, and Ernest Petro played a touch each and broke out in attack. Play was switched to Dan Sandukira, who moved inside and shot, but the effort went straight to the keeper.
Five minutes later, Charles Chipala came on for Joseph.
For the next ten minutes, Silver Striker piled pressure on the hosts, but a goal was still not in sight.
Wanderers’ Alex Kambirinya got a yellow card after a confrontation with the referee.
Despite being in control of the match, the game ended goalless.
The Coach’s Reaction:
First Assist Coach Mapopa Kent Msukwa described the match as balanced, saying his side had a slow start but came knocking several times in the second half.
“It was a balanced game. We came better in the second half as we took the game to them. It was a big game, and we are glad to return with a point. After this match, we look forward to our next assignment and see how we move forward”, said Msukwa.
