It’s Match Week 5 of the 2026/27 FDH Premiership, and the Central Bankers are on the road to the Old Capital City to face defending Champions Mighty Wanderers.

The match takes place in Zomba as an alternative venue for the Lali Lubani side after their initial home ground, Kamuzu Stadium, failed to get certification to host elite league matches in the country.

Current Form:

Both teams return to this match coming from wins against newly promoted sides over the previous weekend. Silver Strikers beat Masters Football Club 3-0, whilst Mighty Wanderers won 0-2 against Luanar Mitundu Baptist.

The Central Bankers seat top of the table after four matches, collecting nine points from three wins and one loss.  The Area 47 side has scored nine goals and conceded twice, and this strong goal difference puts them ahead of everyone as they tie on points with Masters FC, as well as Blue Eagles, who both have nine points each but have an inferior goal difference.

Mighty Wanderers are seventh with six points from the three games they have played. They have a game in hand against Karonga United as their first match was postponed. The Blue and white side has scored five and conceded three.

Both teams, having lost once since the start of the season, will look sharp to avoid a second defeat and increase their tally on the log table come Sunday.

Head-to-Head:

The tie between Silver Strikers and Mighty Wanderers dates back a long time. In the 20 times the two sides have faced each other, Silver Strikers have won nine times and have shared spoils seven times. Mighty Wanderers have won this game four times.

When Mighty Wanderers and Silver Strikers face off, be assured of goals. This is all the more reason that the two have played only three goalless draws since 2015. Silver Strikers have scored 22 times, whilst Mighty Wanderers have found the back of the net against the Area 47 side 15 times.

Team News:

Felix Dumakude, Yankho Billiat, and Eric Astigah are still missing on the traveling list due to injuries. But as a matter of an update on them, Billiat, who sustained an injury on his Achilles tendon, is in his later stage of rehabilitation as he has started light training and will be in full fitness soon.

Demakude is also in rehabilitation, and he is progressing very well and is expected to be back after a few weeks. He is recovering from a lateral meniscus tear.

Astigah, who is nursing a knee injury, has just had an MRI scan done and is awaiting results to determine the way forward in terms of treatment.

Lumbani Nyondo, who was substituted as a precaution in the second half when we played Masters FC, had a hamstring but has been checked and has returned to full training and is available for selection.

Players to watch:

Going into this match, there are some few faces that are enjoying good form currently that will be the talk of the Old Capital City come Sunday. On the hosts, experienced right back Stanley Sanudi is currently enjoying his game and last Saturday he won the Man of the Match award and was voted as the team’s Player of the Week, he surely will be a player to watch from that end.

On the other end, Festus Duwe continues with his fine form after scoring a goal in the previous match to take his goal tally to four and take an early lead in the goal scoring chat, he surely would want to be in the same form in a high profile match as the one on Sunday.

Apart from the two, McDonald Lameck and Andrew Joseph are players to look out for after successfully clinching a goal each whilst Blessings Singini who scored last week as well as Alex Kambirinya who won the team’s player of the week a fortnight ago are players to watch for the hosts.

What’s at Stake:

Records are at stake as Silver Strikers go into this match with an upper hand, having won most of the ties in recent times. This will be the fuel for the hosts as they will look to break the jinx and grab maximum points from the Central Bankers.

For the visitors, a win will cement the lead as we go towards the end of May.
