It’s the third week of the 2026/27 FDH Premiership, and we make a short trip to Area 9 to play Blue Eagles FC at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe. This match kicks off at 2 PM, unlike the regular 2:30 PM.

We are playing this match at Civo Stadium, as the home to Blue Eagles, Nankhaka Stadium, did not pass the certification from the Football Association of Malawi to host elite matches.

The match comes at a time when Silver Strikers returns from hosting Moyale Barracks at Silver Stadium, whilst on the other end, Blue Eagles were away against Chitipa United at Chitipa Stadium.

Current Form:

Silver Strikers tops the table with six points from two games, whilst Blue Eagles is currently seventh with three points. The Central Bankers are on a high note, having won both games and scored six goals whilst conceding one. The Area 47 side came hot in the second half against Moyale Barracks, scoring three goals to earn maximum points.

On the other hand, the Are 30 side, which has changed a bit this season with a majority of its players moving away from the club, has recruited a new crop of players from their Reserve side, making them an energized side that is up to something big this season. Blue Eagles won their first match against Ekhaya FC at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe. In their second match, the side went down 0-1 against Chitipa United.

Despite their last week’s results, both teams will look to edge the other as the fight for maximum points does not sit on who was good the previous week.

Head-to-Head:

The battle between Silver Strikers and Blue Eagles is a fierce one, as the derby dates back almost 5 years. Since 2019, the two sides have met ten times in league action, with most matches being played at Silver and Nankhaka Stadia. 2024 was the only year the two sides did not face each other since the Area 30 side was playing in the lower league after being relegated at the end of the 2023 elite league.

Since 2019, Silver Strikers has won four times whilst Blue Eagles has won the tie three times. The two sides have shared spoils three times as well.

The tie has produced 17 goals in league action since 2019.

Players to watch:

This match brings a variety of talent from both ends.

On the hosts, Webstar Nzunda is having a good run at the moment in his debut season, playing in both games that Blue Eagles have played thus far, providing one assist and winning a Man of the Match award in the opening match against Ekhaya FC. Pius Saka is also a man to watch, having scored in the match against Ekhaya FC at Civo Stadium. A man to watch as well is Tonic Viyuyi. The forward has so far registered a goal as we go into the third week of the FDH Premiership. Viyuyi found the back of the net last season when the two sides met at Silver Stadium.

On the other end, Festus Duwe, Andrew Joseph, and Lumbani Nyondo are the three to look out for when Silver Strikers travel to play against Blue Eagles. Duwe comes into this match week with three goals to his name and an assist, and looks like he is in fine form to continue enjoying what he is known for. This is similar to Joseph, who last week scored a brace against Moyale Barracks. Nyondo is a player to watch as he had a fantastic debut as a defender for Silver Strikers and got so much praise from most of the fans who watched him play. He surely would like to take the same performance into his second game for the Central Bankers.

Team News:

Three Central Bankers are scheduled to miss this week’s action due to various injuries.

The first one is that Yankho Billiat will miss the match against Blue Eagles as he is still nursing an injury where he sustained a knock on the Achilles tendon, but he is currently undergoing rehabilitation, where he is expected back shortly.

Felix Dumakude is still sidelined as he is struggling with a lateral meniscus tear. He had a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan and is currently undergoing rehabilitation.

Eric Astigah is also out of action as he is nursing a knee injury. Astigah is currently awaiting an MRI scan.

What’s at Stake:

As much as maximum points are at stake, pride is also at stake as these two sides are a few kilometres away in the capital city of Malawi. Both teams will make sure that they maintain their pride over the other, but football is a different game altogether, and as a result may go either way after 90 minutes of play.
