The Central Bankers will begin the 2026/27 FDH Premiership campaign with an away clash against the Chiwoko-based side Kamuzu Barracks on Saturday, at Champions Stadium in Mponela, Dowa.
This will mark the start of what promises to be another competitive campaign.
Current Form:
While this is the first match of the league season, Silver Strikers have shown encouraging signs during pre-season preparations. The technical team has emphasized tactical discipline, fitness, and fluid attacking play. In preparation for the season, Silver Strikers has played friendly matches against Mponela United, Mitundu Baptist, MAFCO FC, and Extreme FC, just to mention a few.
On the other hand, Kamuzu Barracks, known for their structure and physical approach, will also be aiming to begin their campaign on a positive note, making this an evenly poised encounter despite it being an opening fixture. The Chiwoko-based soldiers have also been active in preparing for the new season, playing against clubs such as FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, Civil Service United, and CRECK Sporting Club.
Head-to-Head:
Meetings between Silver Strikers and Kamuzu Barracks have historically been closely fought affairs, often decided by fine margins. Saturday’s clash is expected to follow a similar pattern, with both sides likely to rely on discipline and efficiency in key moments.
The two sides have played 10 times since 2020, and for five seasons, Kamuzu Barracks has never won a match against the Central Bankers. Silver Strikers have won seven times whilst sharing spoils three times. The highest margin of goals scored in this encounter since 2020 is six after Silver Strikers won 5-1 on 13 December 2020.
Last season, the Central Bankers won both encounters as the match played at Champions Stadium, the Area 47 side won 2-0 before Lassuli Jali’s lone goal at Silver Stadium settled matters in added time in the second fixture.
Team News:
On Saturday, Silver Strikers is expected to have a strong squad available for selection heading into the opener. However, Defender Lumbani Nyondo and Midfielder Felix Dumakude will both miss out on this fixture as they have knocks and are being assessed by the medical team.
What’s at Stake:
Beyond the three points, this fixture carries added significance as the opening match of the season. A strong start would provide confidence and momentum for the campaign ahead. This is also a fixture that involves players who come from the same vicinity, therefore pride is also at stake.
