Silver Strikers on Thursday conducted a training for its match day stewards at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.

The training, which covered issues such as crowd safety and control, access control, and emergency evacuation procedures, was aimed at equipping the stewards with best working practices ahead of the new season.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the training, Silver Strikers Chief Executive Officer Patrick Chimimba said as an elite club, Silver Strikers would like to abide by all requirements for a conducive environment for a football game, which is why the training took place.

Chimimba urged the stewards to be vigilant in doing the right thing they learnt from the training in order to change the narrative of their work and its results.

“We are doing this training for the first time and were privileged to have individuals from across Lilongwe who are more than willing to bring sanity and order to our games. I personally would like to see a difference in the way we do things. New regulations require that we have more stewards than police with guns and all that, so having 30 stewards being trained is a step in the right direction”, said Chimimba.

On his part, Silver Strikers Supporter National Chairperson, who is also a CAF Certified Security Liaison Officer and was also one of the facilitators, Kingsley Malaya, concurred with the CEO, saying Silver Strikers needs to train even stewards.

“First and foremost, I would like to thank Management for seeing the importance of having this training and the idea that we need more stewards than police officers at our match venues. This is what CAF advocates. To those that have been trained, let’s remember this is voluntary work that we appreciate, and we expect another crop of stewards in the near future to learn from you”, said Malaya.

This was the first of the many series of training that Silver Strikers intends to undertake as part of promoting sanity at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.
