Head Coach Peter Mgangira has said his side needs to focus and win Saturday’s Round of 16 tie against Mzuzu City Hammers at Rumphi Stadium to book its place in the quarterfinals of the tournament, stressing that there are no walkovers in football.
Mzuzu City Hammers were recently relegated from the top-flight league.
Mgangira said the preparation ahead of the game on Saturday has been good.
To reach the Round of 16, Silver Strikers beat Namitete Zitha 0-5 at Aubrey Dimba Stadium in Mchinji.
“The boys are in good shape as we focus on progressing to the next round. In cup games and football in general, there are no walkovers; every team is geared to win. We are playing a good side that was surprisingly relegated from the TNM Super League, but that does not state that they are minnows. The players need to focus and win. But the good thing is that they are looking hungry, and we expect the best from them,” said Mgangira.
Currently, the side has no players sidelined by suspension or injury, with Andrew Joseph fully fit. Joseph was given a few minutes in Mchinji a week ago after his return from injury.
To get to the Round of 16, Mzuzu City Hammers won 5-2 against Homesweepers in the Round of 32.
