Silver Ladies keep their winning streak on

Silver Strikers Ladies ticked all the boxes on Sunday to keep their winning streak going, courtesy of a Deborah Henry brace against Topik Academy at Mzuzu Stadium.

The Ladies’ side made one change on Sunday, with Madyina Nguluwe returning to the squad after a long layoff due to injury, replacing Grace Kakangula.

The match proved to be a hard nut to crack for the Area 47 Ladies side, as the first half ended goalless.

At the break, Silver Strikers Ladies did not make any changes going into the second half.

Eleven minutes into the second half, Henry broke the deadlock to put her side ahead.

Silver Strikers Ladies made a first change when Ireen Khumalo was rested and in came Mphatso Gondwe.

Topik Academy continued to resist as the scoreline was kept the same until the last ten minutes of the match. With four minutes from time, Nguluwe was taken out for Angella Mwalilino.

When things looked like they would end with just a single goal, Henry came knocking again at 88 minutes when she scored the second one for the team.

After the match, Heax Coach Andrew Chikhosi said his side showed resilience and technical discipline hence the win.

“This is a good win for us as a team as it keeps our momentum up. It wasn’t an easy match as we sweated for a good result. We finished the first half as Topik were good in closing our spaces but we knew they couldn’t do that for the whole match. In the second half, we made some changes and piled more pressure. In the end, we scored two goals and won,” said Chikhosi.

With the win, Silver Strikers has maintained top position with 36 points from 13 games.

Henry has now stretched her tally to 20 goals.
