Grace Kakangula and Debory Henry made sure that Silver Strikers Ladies completed a double over Ascent Academy on Saturday, by scoring to open up a seven-point gap at the top of the 2025 National Bank of Malawi Premiership.
Henry’s second-half strike extended her golden boot chase to 18 goals.
On Saturday, Kakangula opened the scoring in the 13th minute to show the team’s intentions of winning the match.
The Ladies’ side held their lead until halftime.
Come second half, Henry quickly doubled the lead ten minutes in to give her side the breather and guarantee of securing maximum points.
Silver Strikers Ladies made a first change at 67 minutes when Yamikani Mhango was taken out for Angella Mwalilino.
Ascent Academy tried everything they could, but Ireen Siwande in goal was at her top performance.
The Ladies side held on until then end of the match.
After the game, Sibande was voted player of the match.
Head Coach Andrew Chikhosi was excited with the win saying it has pushed his side forward.
“An exciting match we have had this afternoon, we had good opposition and an entertaining match. A win was crucial for us, this win puts us in a good position but we will continue taking a game at a time,” said Chikhosi.
With the win, the Area 47 Ladies are now on 33 points in 12 games.
