Silver Ladies back to winning ways

Silver Strikers Ladies thrashed Moyale Sisters 0-6 on Sunday to return to winning ways after suffering their first defeat last week.

Goals from leading top goal scorer Deborah Henry, Wezzie Mvula, and Grace Kakangula were enough to take the Area 47 Ladies side to 30 points from 11 games played.

Silver Strikers Ladies lead the 2025 National Bank of Malawi Women’s Premiership with four points against second-placed Ascent Academy.

On Sunday, Henry opened up the scoring just nine minutes into the match. Kakangula doubled the lead 15 minutes later.

Silver Strikers went to recess two-nil up.

The goals galore came in the second half, as the guests punched four more holes in the hosts to finish off the game.

At 52 minutes, Wezzie Mvula scored her first of the day to make it three before Henry came with her second goal of the day to make it four.

At 59 minutes, Yamikani Mhango scored her first to get the scoreline to 0-5. A minute later, Kakangula was rested and Angella Mwalilino was granted her debut appearance in Silver Strikers Ladies’ colors.

At 70 minutes, Yamikani Mhango completed her brace which was also the last goal of the match. The two sides played the last twenty minutes of the match without scoring a goal.

After the match, Head Coach Andrew Chikhosi thanked his team for a spirited performance, saying they needed to bounce back stronger.

“We played a fantastic match this morning, the girls showed hunger to score and win. We are happy to return to Lilongwe with a win and also come back to winning ways after a disappointing result last week. We eye the remaining games with much focus on preventing an upset again and we’ll see how and where we end at the end of the season,” said Chikhosi.

With her brace today, Deborah Henry has stretched her lead for the Golden Boot Award to 17 goals.
