A point each was the final verdict on Saturday when we played out a two-all draw against Mighty Wanderers at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
The Central Bankers had to come from behind twice after conceding early in the first and second halves.
In the fourth minute, Peter Cholopi finished off a free kick by Isaac Kaliati after a handball near the eighteen-yard box.
The home side piled pressure in search of an equaliser and were twice denied by the keeper in the 17th and 25th minutes.
At 37 minutes, Binwell Katinji leveled matters when he fantastically brought down a long ball from Levison Maganizo, turned towards goal, and took a shot to score.
It was a fierce match until halftime, as both teams showed hunger to score and get in front, but it wasn’t the case.
Three minutes into the second half, we found ourselves back in the backseat as Muhammed Sulumba headed home a corner.
Five minutes after Mighty Wanderers had snatched the lead, Katinji had other thoughts as he leveled matters again from the spotkick when McDonald Lameck was brought down in the eighteen-yard box.
At 57 minutes, Charles Chipala was introduced for Levison Maganizo. Chipala’s introduction added firepower in front as he helped to pile more pressure.
To add more firepower, Chinsisi Maonga and Stanie Davie were thrown in for Ernest Petro and Binwell Katinji at 76 minutes.
Davie came close to snatching the winner when he missed the target by an inch through a header which was a result of fantastic play from Uchizi Vunga who opened up Dan Sandukira who crossed the ball in to find Davie.
The match ended two-all and Binwell Katinji was voted the Man of the Match.
First Assistant Coach Kent Mapopa Msukwa described his side’s performance as outstanding and was confident to say that the title challenge is still on.
“It was a good game, we are coming from a win against them in the cup final so everyone was geared for the other and that’s why we saw a very fantastic game. We came behind twice to get a point as we conceded through set pieces but the result is good. We feel the title is up for grabs we will see how we conclude the season,” he said.
With the point, Silver Strikers is on third position with 41 points from 21 games played.
Next, Silver Strikers will host Moyale Barracks at Silver Stadium on Wednesday.
