Silver Strikers Ladies suffered their first defeat in the 2025 National Bank of Malawi on Monday after losing 1-2 to MDF Lioness.
The match was played 24 hours later after the initial game was postponed on Sunday due to a waterlogged pitch following a heavy downpour.
The game started an hour late after a heavy downpour at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.
On Monday, Henry snatched the lead in the 29th minute after she tapped in a loose ball in the 18-yard box.
MDF Lioness equalised at 73 minutes when Ruth Tambala scored from outside the 18-yard box.
10 minutes later, Catherine Kachala snatched the lead when she connected a corner.
MDF Lioness clung to the narrow lead and dented Silver Strikers’ record.
The loss on Monday keeps Silver Strikers Ladies at 27 points from ten games, four ahead of second-placed Ascent Academy.
Head Coach Andrew Chikhosi conceded defeat saying it was a bad outing.
“We have played in a highly contested match this afternoon as the guests showcased hunger to win. We found a goal in the first half but failed to hold on to the lead. We conceded goals in succession in the second half and we couldn’t come back into the match to get something out of it, a bad day in the office,” said Chikhosi.
On Sunday, Silver Strikers Ladies will play against Moyale Sisters at Mzuzu Stadium.
