A Deborah Henry goal on Sunday stretched Silver Strikers Ladies’ unbeaten run, after the side edged Mighty Wanderers Queens by a goal to nil at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre in the 2025 National Bank of Malawi Women’s Premiership.
With the win, Silver Strikers Ladies are now on 15 points after winning all their games and still clinging to the record of being the only side yet to face defeat.
The match comes after a two-week break due to the Malawi National Women’s football team and Kukoma Ntopwa Queens’ engagements in International Friendlies and the CAF Champions League respectively.
Henry needed only 31 minutes to register her name on the scoresheet to put her side ahead. The goal also stretched her lead in the golden boot chase, as she is now on 6 goals, one more than Leticia Chinyamula of Ascent Academy who sits second. She utilized a set piece from a freekick played by Ireen Khumalo.
Until half time, the Ladies’ side enjoyed the narrow lead. Come second half, Silver Ladies looked to double the lead but it was not the case.
At 56 minutes, Gladys Banda and Carol Mathyola were introduced to add firepower as Grace Kakangula and Linda Manda were substituted. Another change came after 75 minutes when Mphatso Gondwe was introduced for Wezzie Mvula.
The match ended in favor of Silver Strikers Ladies with that lone goal from Henry for the Area 47 Ladies side to return to Lilongwe with maximum points.
After the match, Head Coach Andrew Chikhosi said he was happy with the performance of the team and will keep looking forward to the next match as the league title has a long way to go.
“A great performance from the girls this afternoon. We were playing away and winning against a side like Wanderers at their back yard is something we can never take lightly. We are happy with this win and we look forward to more wins ahead. At their moment, we keep taking each game as it comes,” said Chikhosi.
Next, Silver Ladies will travel to Blantyre again to face Kukoma Ntopwa Queens.
