Silver Strikers’ defensive duo, Maxwell Paipi and McDonald Lameck, along with goalkeeper George Chikooka, have been nominated for the August Player of the Month award.

In August, Silver Strikers played five matches, winning four and drawing once.

It’s no surprise that all three August’s nominees have been called up to the Malawi National football team camp ahead of the two consecutive World Cup Qualifiers against Namibia and Liberia.

During the month, the Central Bankers played Mighty Tigers at home (0-0), then traveled to face Mzuzu City Hammers (0-2). They later moved to Blantyre to face Mighty Tigers again (0-1) in the FDH CUP round of 32, before returning to Blantyre for a league encounter against the same side(0-1). The month was wrapped up with a midweek win against Chitipa United (1-0) at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.

This marks the fifth award of the season, and the competition for this prestigious honor continues to tighten.

Here’s how the three performed in the past month:

Maxwell Paipi: The Vice-Captain demonstrated exceptional leadership in the absence of first-team Captain Chikondi Kamanga. Paipi has been essential this month, playing all five games and switching roles from defensive midfielder to center back. Wearing jersey number 19, often called the Italian Bonucci, he provided stability and was the main catalyst in attack when needed. Quiet yet effective, Paipi is among those nominated for the August award, showcasing remarkable talent and leadership.

George Chikooka: The goalkeeper had a fantastic month, playing in all five matches. George managed to keep clean sheets in every game, going the entire month without conceding a goal. To top this achievement, Chikooka was named Man of the Match in our away league match against Tigers at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre. This is his first time being nominated for Player of the Month this season.

McDonald Lameck: The right back delivered solid performances throughout the month, playing in all five matches and providing three assists overall. His impressive display at Rumphi Stadium against Mzuzu City Hammers saw his two runs down the right produce two assists, earning him Man of the Match honors. Additionally, McDonald played a key role in the round of 32 victory against Mighty Tigers at Kamuzu Stadium by assisting Charles Chipala. He is also a first-time nominee.
