Silver Strikers banged three goals to grab maximum points over Karonga United at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe on Wednesday to move three places up the log table.
Chinsisi Maonga, Chimwemwe Idana and Festus Duwe were the ones who registered their names on the scoresheet for the Central Bankers.
Head Coach Peter Mgangira made a change in his set up as he deployed vice captain Maxwell Paipi in midfield to shield the defense.
The Central Bankers made a strong start as they looked to register an early goal but luck was not on their side. The Area 47 outfit had their first shot at goal when Dan Sandukila tried his luck from a distance, but the opposition goalkeeper was alert.
It was chance after chance until 37 minutes when all the hard work paid off when a move from behind the center circle by Paipi opened up Emmanuel Allan who did not waste time to assist Chinsisi Maonga with an excellent pass for him to chip in a beautiful goal.
The Central Bankers took the lead to half time.
At 51 minutes, Karonga United got back into the match after a handball by McDonald Lameck in the penalty box. Patrick Phiri stepped up and scored from the spot.
Ten minutes later, Idana finished off a play that was turned from defense to attack as we cleared a threat when Paipi passed to Maonga, who gave Duwe a fantastic ball from midfield to accord Duwe the opportunity to set it up for Idana who took a wonderful shot into the net.
At 63 minutes, Duwe extended the lead when we quickly recollected possession and set up Lameck who crossed the ball in for Duwe to finish it off.
George Chikooka made a fantastic save at 78 minutes to deny the guests another goal as they made a fantastic attack that only ended into a corner which was later well delt with.
We made our first change eight minutes from time, bringing in Zebron Kalima, Stanie Davie and Lassuli Jali for Allan, Duwe and Idana. In added time, Uchizi Vunga paved way for Levison Maganizo.
After the match, Mgangira said his side played very well and deserved a win.
“It was one of our best games this afternoon as the boys put in so much effort into the match. This does not mean Karonga United is an easy side but the boys worked for it. We are happy for the three points we are now looking forward to more wins ahead,” said Mgangira.
The win takes Silver Strikers to position five with 15 points from eight games.
