Silver Strikers made their way to the semifinals of the 2025 Airtel Top 8 on Sunday as they thrashed Moyale Barracks 1-3 at Rumphi Stadium.
On aggregate, Silver Strikers has won the quarterfinal match 1-4.
Stanie Davie opened the scoring at 16 minutes when he converted a pass from Chinsisi Maonga who made a good run from the right after receiving a ball from the center. Maonga placed a diagonal ball inside for Davie to slot in the leading goal.
Silver Strikers went to the break with the slender lead.
Come second half, the lead was doubled at 59 minutes after Idana played magnificently to open up Duwe who chipped the ball over the goalkeeper and into the net.
It was not enough for Duwe, as in the 67th minute, he received a ball from Davie and took his time to score a thunderbolt from approximately 30 meters.
We made our first substitution at 79 minutes. Precious Sambani, Emmanuel Allan and Innocent Mtonga were introduced as they all made their debut for Silver Strikers in this tournament. The three came in for Dan Sandukila, Chikondi Kamanga and Stanie Davie.
Nine minutes from time, Moyale Barracks pulled one back after Black Allisen headed home a corner.
A double change for us came at 83 minutes as Binwell Katinji and Innocent Shema were taken out for Uchizi Vunga and McDonald Lameck.
After regulation time, Silver Strikers won the game 1-3 and 1-4 on aggregate.
Head Coach Peter Mgangira expressed happiness with the win and said he looks forward to the semifinal tie against Civil Service United.
“It was a tough game however we created a lot of chances which we did not convert more into goals but all in all we converted what we could. We came here to win am happy we have done just that and we have progressed to the semifinals. We are not yet satisfied as we aim to get to the finals and fight for the top prize,” said Mgangira.
Silver Strikers will now return to Lilongwe to prepare for a league match against Mighty Wanderers at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre on Sunday 25 May 2025.
