Silver Strikers have registered their first win over Kamuzu Barracks at Champions Stadium in Mponela, Dowa.
The side returned to action after another win on Monday.
Against Kamuzu Barracks, coach Peter Mgangira made one change to the side that won in the previous match by bringing in Chinsisi Maonga for Uchizi Vunga.
The Bankers found a quick goal of the match in the third minute when Zebron Kalima nicked in a ball from Chinsisi Maonga to take the lead.
Silver Strikers continued to pile more pressure to find the second but most chances went off target.
At 33 minutes captain Chikondi Kamanga could have doubled the lead but the opposing goalkeeper made a fantastic save.
We went to recess with a one-goal lead.
In the second half, the tempo of the game dropped as both teams struggled to maintain the passing game like in the first half.
The last 45 minutes were marred by high tempers as both sides did not like the decisions of the officiating panel.
At 63 minutes, Festus Duwe and Binwell Katinji were substituted for Stanie Davie and Innocent Mtonga.
Six minutes from time, Zebron Kalima was taken off for Levison Maganizo.
A minute later, Stanie Davie utilised a miscommunication between the Kamuzu Barracks goalkeeper and defender as they failed to complete a proper pass, giving Davie an opportunity to come in between the two, snatch the ball, and drop it in the net.
Six minutes were added after regulation time but the scores remained unchanged.
In post match interviews, Mgangira said the win was what the team needed and that the boys needed to be congratulated as they worked hard for it.
“It was a tough game, they gave us a good run. The quick goal gave us a confidence and we created many chances which we failed to convert but we have scored two and we have three points. We are taking each game as it comes and we look forward to the coming games,” said Mgangira.
Zebron Kalima was voted as the Man of the match
