Head Coach Peter Mgangira has stressed the need for a comfortable first leg win against Moyale Barracks on Monday, in the 2025 Airtel Top 8 Quarterfinal at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe, to increase chances of reaching the semifinals.
The match comes after a 2-all draw against Chitipa United at Karonga Stadium in the league on Saturday last week.
On record, Silver Strikers has never bowed out of the Airtel Top 8 at the quarterfinal stage. Last year, the side lost 1-0 in the final against FCB Nyasa Big Bullets.
Mgangira says, despite that Moyale Barracks is a good side with an experienced coach, the quarterfinal match is a crucial game, which his side needs to score more goals and avoid conceding any.
“This is an important match as we’re playing at home; we have to win at all cost. It’s always an entertaining and tough game against Moyale Barracks. If you look at the results from last season, we shared the spoils in both away and home games. That shows they are a very good team, but as Silver Strikers, we are ready. With the results we have had in the previous matches, it’s all up to us to turn the tables around. We’re looking forward to it, and we hope that we’re going to be at our best on that particular day so that victory should go on our side,” said Mgangira.
The two sides will face off again at Mzuzu Stadium later in May for the second leg of the Quarterfinal tie.
