Earlier this week, the Super League of Malawi (SULOM) revealed the nominees for the best-performing players of the 2024 TNM Super League season. Three Silver Strikers players are featured in three of the four awards, which will be presented on Friday, March 21, 2025.
Silver Strikers were crowned the 2024 TNM Super League Champions in grand style, amassing 67 points from 30 matches after securing 19 victories, sharing the spoils 10 times, and suffering just one defeat.
This memorable season saw the Central Bankers break an 11-year league drought in Area 47, Lilongwe.
In the awards, defender McDonald Lameck, midfielder Uchizi Vunga, and goalkeeper George Chikooka are among the nominees for the Best Defender Award, Best Midfielder Award, and Player of the Season Award, respectively.
Lameck, who is the Silver Strikers’ 2024 Best Defender of the Season, has been nominated for a similar award alongside CRECK Sporting Centre’s Hadji Wali and former Civil Service United right back Masiya Manda. Our jersey number 2 had a fantastic debut season in Area 47, contributing 10 assists and scoring four times in 29 matches while winning the Man of the Match Award twice.
Competing with other talented midfielders in the 2024 TNM Super League season is our midfield maestro, Uchizi Vunga, who scored four crucial goals, including a brace that helped the Central Bankers secure a point at the Aubrey Dimba Stadium against CRECK Sporting Club. Vunga also provided 10 assists in the 24 matches he played.
Another player who enjoyed his debut season at Silver Strikers is goalkeeper George Chikooka. The former Chitipa United goalkeeper automatically won the 2024 TNM Super League Golden Glove award after keeping 18 impressive clean sheets. The goalie competes with fellow Central Banker Lameck as well as Mighty Mukuru Wanderers’ Isaac Kaliati.
The trio from Silver Strikers has undoubtedly played a vital role in raising the sky-blue flag on the big stage and will surely bring home the gold.
During the awards, SULOM will also honor the most disciplined supporters in the 2024 Seaon.
