The Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM), sponsors of the 2024 TNM Super League Champions has reiterated its commitment of sponsoring the Area 47 side in its future endeavors including its intended participation in the continental CAF Champions League.
This was revealed by the RBM Governor Dr Wilson Banda when the Central Bank hosted the team to a Cocktail as one way of celebrating the team for winning the league title.
Speaking at the event, Dr Banda said the Reserve Bank is committed to continue supporting the team to achieve more.
The Governor said he will be waiting for a recommendation from the technical committee on the team’s interest to play in the CAF Champions League next year and will facilitate the procurement of a bus for the team.
“I am very, very happy to witness this big win for Silver Strikers, and you can imagine, we’re over the moon I’m very happy for the boys. The club has made two requests, one for a state-of-the-art bus and the involvement in CAF Tournament. For the bus, that has already been ordered, so this is not an issue anymore. It’s just an issue of procurement anytime it will be here. As for CAF Champions League, we are prepared to support them, but the request has to come from the technical team. I know we have won the championship, but the team needs to demonstrate that it can do this so they need to come to me and say they are ready to participate. As a Central Bank we have the capacity to participate and we will provide the financial support,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of Silver Strikers, the team’s Board Chair Dr George Kaudza Masina said he was happy with the Central Bank’s response saying the support from the Bank will energise the team to win more silverware.
Kaudza Masina said as a Board they will continue to safeguard the Silver Strikers brand to attract more sponsors and partners.
“As Silver Strikers Football Club, we are very happy that after 11 years we have now clinched the TNM Super League and winning a Super League is more than winning any other cup. This entails that we are indeed champions. We made several requests to our sponsor (RBM), firstly, it was to do with the bus. The patron has said that it was already bought therefore we will just wait for it to arrive and on our plans to compete in CAF Champions League they have said we should make a formal request, otherwise we feel our requests have been accepted,” said Kaudza Masina.
Silver Strikers won the 2024 TNM Super League with 67 points, nine over second placed Mighty Mukuru Wanderers. For winning the league, Silver Strikers have qualified to play for the CAF Champions League next year.
We soldier on togethaer, my team!
