The Champions elect suffered a first defeat in the 2024 TNM Super League on Wednesday after going down 1-0 to Mulanje based FOMO FC.
The first loss of the season comes barely days after the Central Bankers cemented the league title on Saturday at Kamuzu Stadium.
On Wednesday, Coach Peter Mponda made four changes to the side that won on Saturday as Uchizi Vunga, George Chikooka, McDonald Lameck and Misheck Seleman were rested.
The match that was played under intense heat did not bring more scoring chances in the first half as the game went to recess without a goal.
At half time, the gaffter made four changes bringing in Stanie Davie, Uchizi Vunga, McDonald Lameck and Misheck Seleman taking out Chikondi Kamanga, Patrick Macheso, Emmanuel Muira and Chinsisi Maonga.
The changes brought rhythm in the second half as the team started piling more pressure on the hosts.
At 65 minutes, Lassuli Jali forced a save when he received a pass from Chimwemwe Idana who connected a rebound from a freekick played by Uchizi Vunga from a freekick when Mischeck Seleman was brought down close to the 18 Yard box.
Ten minutes later another change was made as Chimwemwe Idana was substituted for Levison Maganizo.
Six minutes away from time, the hosts found the back of the net after a throw in was played into the box and found Prince Kajore who slotted home a ball from close range.
The hosts took the goal to regulation time to secure maximum points.
After the match, Coach Mponda said it was a painful defeat against FOMO but urged his charges to wake up and engage an extra gear for the last match.
“A bad day for us as we were so flat this afternoon. Its a painful loss as the boys didn’t play the way we are used to play it was an off-day for us but that happens in football and congratulations to FOMO for the win”, said Mponda.
The Central Bankers return to Lilongwe to fininsh off the 2024 TNM Super League on Saturday as they host Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.
