Silver Strikers had a grand return on home ground when they maintained their 100 percent winning streak on Saturday when they won 2-0 against in form Mighty Tigers.
With the win, the Area 47 side has registered its ninth win this season at Silver Stadium.
Two goals in the second half were enough to stretch the lead on summit to 43 points.
The Central Bankers were looking to settle and score quickly when at 14 minutes Binwell Katinji missed in front of an empty net after Stanie Davie rounded off the goalie but the result of this effort was just a goal kick for the guests.
Silver Strikers indeed settled well in the first half as the trio of Binwell Katinji, Chikondi Kamanga, and Chimwemwe Idana proved too difficult to handle for the guests but the last effort from the midfield was the only missing link for the hosts to get a lead.
At half time when the scores were at 0-0, Silver Strikers made three changes bringing in Innocent Mtonga, Dan Sandukila, and Friday Osagie for Tatenda M’balaka, Chikondi Kamanga, and Gift Chunga.
The changes brought a positive impact on the side of the Central Bankers as seven minutes into the second half substitute Friday Osagie headed home a rebound from an effort that Katinji made towards the goal to take the lead.
A minute later, Davie could have doubled the lead when his header missed the target by an inch when he responded to a cross by Zebron Kalima. At 71 minutes, Kalima was rested and Charles Chipala was introduced.
Six minutes away from time, Osagie doubled the lead when he fired home from close range with a pass from Chinsinsi Maonga. The goal gave Silver Strikers the comfort to finish off the game and give the goalkeeper his 11th clean sheet.
In post-match interviews, Head Coach Peter Mponda said he knew it would be a tough match and the hosts were tactically well.
“We anticipated a tough match against Mighty Tigers but the boys were up to the task and I should commend them for a good performance this afternoon. Our opponents played so deep to avoid conceding a goal but we saw the boys not giving up even though it was a tight game”, said Mponda.
The Bankers will next play Chitipa United on Thursday at Karonga Stadium in Karonga.
