A last minute header by forward Stanie Davie was what the Central Bankers needed on Saturday to get the second round of the 2024 TNM Super League rolling.

The win keeps the unbeaten run undented and stretches the lead to 40 points from 16 games for the Area 47 side.

From kickoff, it proved to be a tough afternoon as the hosts showed strong resilience and determination.

The home side highlighted their intentions just after 12 minutes when they had a shot on target but George Chikooka was up to the task.

Charles Chipala was the first from our side to try his luck on goal at 28 minutes when he received a chip from Dan Sandukila after Paipi initiated an attack from defense but Chipala’s shot was well taken care of.

With the two chances, the game went to recess goalless.

Come second half, the Bankers made several changes but a goal was never in sight.

In added time, substitute Stanie Davie scored his fifth goal of the season after he headed into the net a ball from McDonald Lameck to snatch the win.

Karonga United failed to respond as time ran out.

After the match, Head Coach Peter Mponda said his side was very lucky to grab maximum points as they faced a very competitive side that kept his team on the back foot the whole game.

“It was a very tough match but we anticipated it. Karonga United is a good side and playing at their home yard has never been easy. We are happy we have collected maximum points this afternoon after they lost concentration at the end of the match but thats part of the game and we are lucky that we have grabbed maximum points away from home”, said Mponda.

Stanie Davie was voted man of the match.

At the same stage last year the game ended goalless.
