Central Bankers complete a 100% home run

Silver Strikers on Sunday had a grand finish of the home run in the first round of the 2024 TNM Super League with a win over FOMO FC to open an 11 points gap at the summit of the table.

An 80th minute strike by substitute Duncan Nyoni was enough to bring down the spirited Mulanje based rookies.

The win by the Central Bankers has taken the unbeaten run to 14 games with a game to go before the lapse of the first round.

It was a tight match that saw the guests tactically alert to keep away the home side from scoring by half time as chances from Stanie Davie, Chinsisi Maonga and Patrick Macheso couldn’t materialise.

In the second half, Head Coach Peter Mponda made a double substitution that saw Duncan Nyoni and Uchizi Vunga being introduced for Patrick Macheso and Paul Kansungwi after an hour of play.

The change brought dividends twenty minutes later as Nyoni found the back of the net when he connected a cross from in form right back McDonald Lameck.

The goal brought joy and excitement in Area 47 as it ended up to be the only goal to separate the hosts from the guests after regulation time.

In post match interviews, Mponda said it was a difficult game as FOMO FC were tactically good but in the end credit should go to his charges who pressed for a match needed goal to grab maximum points.

“This was a very difficult game, they knew they couldn’t play pound for pound with us so they gave us the opportunity to be on the ball but not hurt them thats why we got until the second half without a goal. I should commend the opponent’s technical panel for the good job but my boys stayed in the game and scored. A win for us and i am happy”, said Mponda.

Silver Strikers will wrap up the first round at Mzuzu Stadium against Moyale Barracks.
