Bankers fire up to bang maximum points against Karonga United

The last match of May for the Central Bankers was a dramatic turn of events at Silver Stadium on Saturday as Silver Strikers had to come twice from behind to claim a seventh win this season.

A goal each by Uchizi Vunga, Mark Fodya, Stanie Davie and Chimwemwe Idana were enough to secure maximum points for the Area 47 based side.

The Bankers started on a high note as Zebron Kalima set up Vunga after five minutes for him to release a thunderbolt from outside the box.

Karonga United quickly responded at 23 minutes when Saulos Moyo equalized following lapses in the Bankers defence failed to clear the ball

At halftime, Coach Peter Mponda made his second change when he brought in Patrick Macheso for Chikondi Kamanga. Due to the substitution of the captain, Maxwell Paipa took over the captaincy.

Come second half, Stanie Davie was introduced for Charles Chipala and Davies’s impact was instant.

At 70 minutes, Mark Fodya fired up a second goal for the Central Bankers after a good exchange of passes and Uchizi Vinga made an assist to Fodya who hit the ball hard to snatch the lead back.

Instantly, Nanison Mbewe leveled the scores again to silence the Banker’s. However, at 80 minutes Stanie Davie striked a wonderful volley to take the lead once more.

In added time, Chimwemwe Idana showed his individual brilliance when he got the ball from midfield and made a run until he slotted home the final goal of the match.

After the match, Mponda said he was happy with the win but his side did not show up well for the match.

“We have won today against a good side that showcased a beautiful game. Karonga were bery quick on the ball and pressed us so much. To say the truth they deserved the win this afternoon but we are lucky to win the match”, said Mponda.

With the win Silver Strikers has increased its tally to 22 points.
