The 2024 NBS Bank Charity Shield match at Bingu National Stadium on Saturday had to be decided on post match penalties.

At the end of the regulation time it ended in a barren draw between the two sides

The match was exciting as both sides showed fantastic football only that clear-cut chances were amiss to decide the match. Both sides showed prowess but it was around 20 minutes when the Area 47 side raised their momentum and pressurized the opponents but could not find the back of the net.

After 28 minutes Binwell Katinji could have broken the deadlock when he failed to finish off a cross from Mark Fodya. Seconds later, Katinji missed the target when McDonald Lameck spotted him in the box only for Katinji to miss the target.

The Central Bankers enjoyed possession until recess. Come the second half, Innocent Shema was introduced for Nickson Mwase who limped off after a stretch. Later on, Gift Chunga found the back of the net at 55 minutes only to be ruled out for offside.

At 61 minutes, Emmanuel Muira was introduced to the fray for Mark Fodya.

The stalemate went to full-time where penalties were a deciding factor. FCB Nyasa Big Bullets won the match 7-6 when Duncan Nyoni and Gift Chunga missed their spot kicks.

After the match, Head coach Peter Mponda said he was satisfied with his side’s performance regardless of the loss.

“It was a very good game and the boys gave a good performance which is very encouraging. To our assessment as a technical panel we are impressed with what they have shown us after this game I think we are ready, even if you give us a game tomorrow we will be ready to play”, said Mponda.
