Silver Strikers has on Sunday unveiled former Malawi national football captain and defender Peter Mponda as the team’s head coach.
Mponda has penned a one year contract with the Central Bankers ahead of the 2024 season.
The former Black Leopards and Wizards FC head coach takes up the reigns after the club parted ways with Dutch Pieter De Jongh early this year.
Speaking after being unveiled, the 42 year old CAF B License holder said he is excited to start a new chapter with the Central Bankers and look forward to taking up a new challenge.
“I am glad to take up the role of being the team’s head coach and I feel this is my time to register my abilities with the team. The new role comes with pressure as any other job but to defeat the pressure we have to work hard and I believe we will do so and be successful. I cannot wait to meet the technical team to set the ball rolling”, Mponda said.
On his part, Silver Strikers Chief Executive Officer Patrick Chimimba said the club is delighted to make the appointment and start preparations for the new season and has since pledged all the necessary support to the new gaffer to succeed.
“We are glad today to announce Mr Mponda as our head coach going forward and we believe that he is the perfect fit for our club and what we believe in. Silver Strikers will provide all the necessary available resources for him to make headway and succeed in his position”, he said.
