A round up of the Silver Strikers Reserve 2023 Season

Our Reserve side had a very busy season in 2023 as they took part in five competitions (thus the Chipiku Central Region Premier Division League, Champions Cup, Nyasa Capital Finance Cup, Castel Cup and the FDH Cup).

Out of the five, the team managed to register 100% success in three of the competitions.

Silver Strikers Reserve were crowned Central Region Nyasa Capital Finance Cup champions early in December after stunning St Gabriel Zitha FC in a final played at Nankhaka Stadium in Lilongwe. A lone goal from a header by Lasuli Jali was enough for the side to win the final.

To get to the final the Area 47 Reserve Side scored 6 and only conceded one in the whole competition.

The team was crowned FDH Cup regional champions and only failed to participate at the national phase of the competition because of the new Football Association of Malawi rules that bar reserve sides from taking part in national competitions.

The same run was replicated in the Castel Challenge Cup when the side managed to find the back of the net 4 times and only conceding once and that was enough to book a place into the national phase. The team beat Ekas Freight Wanderers (2-1) and Ngolowindo FC (2-0).

Come the Champions Cup, The Area 47 Reserve side only played two games as they were knocked out in the round of 16 of the competition. Their first outing of the competition was a 1-0 win over Dzaleka Future FC where Lifton Gunde was the scorer. In the round of sixteen the team lost 4-2 in post-match penalties after a 1-1 stalemate against MP Roma from Mponela.

Lastly in league action, the McDonald Yobe led side finished third in the final round of 12 teams. The side finished top of group B in the preliminary round of the 2023 Chipiku Central Region Premier Division League. The team went on to win 14 matches, sharing spoils twice and losing six times in the final round. They amassed 44 points whilst scoring 40 goals and conceding 18.

The performance of some players in the 2023 season was so hard to miss thereby it was not by surprise that players such as Adiel Kaduya, Innocent Mtonga and Eustace Mwale were promoted to the senior team.
