The young Central Bankers made their intentions of proceeding to the round of 16 known early into the match as they played fantastic possession football that led to an early goal by Lifton Gunde to break the deadlock.
This ended up to be the only goal of the match.
Dzaleka Future came into the match oozing confidence as a large part of the crowd that came at the Champions Stadium were behind them considering their previous showdown that forced the unveiling match of the tournament to get to post match penalties when they held FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Reserve to a goalless draw.
However, Gunde had other thoughts as he tapped in a pass from Ebenezer Mpangeni at four minutes into the match to give his side the lead.
Six minutes later Gunde could have made it a brace after his shot hit the woodwork.
The first half became a one sided affair as the Area 47 side enjoyed possession which made the crowd switch sides and get behind them.
Two minutes from halftime, through a short corner, Malizani Kalema could have doubled the lead as he forced Dzaleka Future’s goalie to stretch to concede another corner which did not yield the much needed result.
After the break, Dzaleka Future showed signs of wanting to return in the match but their efforts did not bring anything to book.
Ten minutes from time, Coach Mcdonald Yobe made a double substitution by resting the goal scorer Gunde as well as Lassuli Jali and bringing in fresh legs of Kondanani Samuel and Sheriff Ntondo.
After 90 minutes of play, the lone goal by Gunde sealed the spot in the round of 16 of the Kabvina trophy for the team.
Speaking after the match, Coach Yobe said his team had a great game though he felt they were supposed to score more goals.
“I’m happy that we have won and progressed today. It was a fantastic game on our side as we played very well in the first half and we found a goal early in the match. We could have scored more goals but we failed to utilise our chances. In the second half our opponents came on us looking for an equaliser but my boys were technically strong to defend the goal we scored earlier. We return back to base a happy side and look forward to the next one”, said Yobe.
With this win , Silver Strikers Reserve has maintained its winning streak in all competitions.
The young Central Bankers have only conceded once in 11 competitive matches and have scored 33 goals this season.
