THREE POINTS IN THE BAG AS WE RETURN TOP!

A lone goal by midfield maestro Chimwemwe Idana was enough on Sunday afternoon to make a return to top spot for the Central Bankers who were playing in form Mafco FC at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

Idana registered his name on the score sheet at 21 minutes a slander lead that the Bankers held on to the final whistle.

These two teams were coming into this match have registered back to back wins in Matchweek 7 and 8 of the TNM Super League.

The first half begun on a good note as both sides equally shared possession and proved to be in good form as the game was characterised by a good exchange of passes.

Idana excited fans who came to watch the unpredictable match at 21 minutes of play after he got the ball from Stane Davie who utilised a blunder from Paul Ndlobvu.

The midfielder had two to three comfortable touches to set himself to score the only goal of the match.

That 21 minute strike built the confidence of the hosts who controlled the proceedings of the first half.

Just a few minutes after the goal, Mark Fodya set up Patrick Macheso after he curled in a left footed cross that Macheso controlled well but his shot was well taken care of by Mafco’s goalie Blessings Kameza.

Before the half hour mark, Duncan Nyoni who was the captain of the day in place of Chikondi Kamanga, dribbled and made a turn infield and spotted Idana who took a shot to stretch Kameza again.

Kameza proved to be the busiest goalkeeper as before the half time whistle Davie came knocking again with an attack that hit the woodwork after getting a pass from Idana.

In the second half, Atusaye Nyondo was introduced for Davie.

The second half did not produce more action like the first half as the game proved to be a battle of the midfield and got less action in the 18 yard box of both sides.

Silver Strikers head coach Hendrikus Pieter de Jongh made two more changes before the end of the match as he gave newly promoted Adiel Kaduya his maiden appearance for Macheso and Chisomo Mpachika came in for Duncan Nyoni.

After the match, De Jongh said the team played very well in the first half and got a goal which is good but still misplaced alot of chances.

“I’m impressed with our performance as we created alot of chances. That’s very important. We are playing so well as we are piling so much pressure on our opponents. So I’m not worried for the chances that have not been converted to goals” said De Jongh.

Tatenda M’balaka was voted FOL Man of the match.

Going into the Fifa international break, Silver Strikers top the table with 21 points from nine games, a point ahead of FCB Nyasa Big Bullets.
