Head coach Pieter de Jongh has said his side is cautious ahead of the first fixture away up north.

On Sunday, Silver Strikers FC face 13th placed Ekwendeni Hammers at Mzuzu stadium.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference in Lilongwe on Thursday, de Jongh said he respects all teams in the league and does not expect an easy ride on Sunday.

“We are well prepared for the game on Sunday as my players are in good shape and proper mindset. Currently, we have all players set for selection for this game. As a team, we respect every opponent and we do respect Ekwendeni Hammers”, said de Jongh.

The gaffer however expressed worry of the condition of the pitch in Mzuzu nevertheless said the team will adapt to it and see the best way possible to get a good result.

“We have one more session here back home and another one on Saturday in Mzuzu. We are worried about the pitch that side but we have to do with what we have. We look forward to a good match regardless” he said.

On some players missing in the senior team, De Jongh confirmed their absence by saying that a few players have been reassigned to the reserve side after a proper assessment.

“Since my first session, i told everyone that i will have a maximum of 26 players to work with. It is not alright to train 30 or 35 players. So a few had to go tonthe reserve side where we are monitoring them closely. There were a few areas that we looked at to come to the decision of reassigning them to the reserve side. Among the areas, we looked at the issue to do with technical ability, fitness as well as discipline just to mention a few”, he said.

Silver Strikers are coming from a win at home against Red Lions and sit third on the log table with seven points from three games played.
