Malawi national football team midfielder Chimwemwe Idana has attributed his perfect start to the 2023 season to hard work and following instructions from the technical team.
The 2021 TNM Super League Player of the Season joined Silver Strikers on loan from Tanzania top flight league side Mbeya FC. He signed a one and half year contract with the Tanzanian side.
Three games into the season, Idana has already made his presence felt in the league by scoring three goals (one against Blue Eagles and two against Red Lions) and winning the FOL Man of the match award twice (against FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Red Lions).
The soft spoken midfield maestro said he feels right at home playing for the Area 47 side and he is enjoying his game.
“I have started well here at Silver Strikers since the other players i found here gave me a warm welcome and friendly environment which has helped me to feel at home and enjoy my game. My current form is a result of hardwork and taking heed of the coaching panel’s advice on how to operate in the field of play.” he said.
Idana added that joining the Central Bankers at a time the team also got a new head coach hasn’t made things tough for him to adapt due to a good working relationship with his colleagues therefore making his start at the club an easy one.
“Yes the team just got a new head coach but if you observe properly the rest of the guys are not that new. Some of the players here are those that i have played with on national team assignments, some against them when i was playing for my previous club so there are not so new”, he added.
On how he sees the season unfolding, Idana said he hopes to maintain and further improve his current form and in turn help Silver Strikers win titles.
“We have just played three games so far and there many more to come. I just pray that God should be with us until the end of the season so that we should finish the same way we have started the season because it is not only about us to be what we are at the moment but the will of God.” he acknowledged.
Currently, the Central Bankers are on third position with seven points having played three games with two wins and a draw.
