Silver Strikers head coach Pieter de Jongh has said his team is on the right track after collecting four points from two matches against two teams that finished on first and second position last season.
Speaking at a pre-match press briefing in Lilongwe on Thursday, De Jongh said he is expecting a tough encounter in Sunday’s home game against Red Lions.
The Dutch will be without towering defender Nickson Mwase who received a red card last week at Nankhaka Stadium after a physical altercation with Blue Eagles captain Schumacher Kuwali. Kuwali was also sent out for the incident.
Other doubtful faces on Sunday are midfield combination of Chimwemwe Idana and Captain Chikondi Kamanga who are nursing injuries.
“We have a tough match this weekend as we are facing a team in search of its first win. We understand each and every team that we play with is geared to win but we have had a good week where we have prepared our tactical approach to this game. There is need that we score goals while we try to keep a clean sheet as well”, said de Jongh.
On those to miss the game on Sunday, the coach said they feel the pressure they have through suspension and the injuries but said he is still looking for a good result come Sunday.
“As we all know we will be without Nickson Mwase due to suspension but we won’t have Chikondi and Chimwemwe as well. The two players have suffered several knocks so we will wait for a doctor’s assessment on the injuries. But we hope to have them by Sunday.” he said.
This far, Silver Strikers FC has played two games in the 2023 TNM Super league picking a point in a 1 all draw against FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and a win over Blue Eagles last Saturday.
