PUBLIC APOLOGY

Silver Strikers Football Club would like to apologise to Football Association of Malawi (FAM), FAM Competitions Committee, FDH Bank (Sponsors of FDH Bank Cup), Nyasa Big Bullets Football Club, Mr Gomezgani Zakazaka of FAM and all sports loving Malawians on issues of violence, isolated cases of hooliganism and unsporting behaviours that occurred at Silver Stadium on 18th day of August, 2021 during the Football Match between Silver Strikers Football Club and Nyasa Big Bullets Football Club. Silver Striker Strikers Football Club management hereby unreservedly apologises to all football stakeholders and supporters for the unfortunate and deplorable events that happened on that day. Such conduct has no place in modern football and in any professional sports activity.

Silver Strikers Football Club has noted that there were many factors that contributed to the violence and unfortunate events including deliberate failure by Super League of Malawi (SULOM) Executive to attend to an earlier matter of violence that happened at Kamuzu Stadium on 30th July, 2021 between Nyasa Big Bullets Football Club and Silver Strikers Football Club, failure to adhere to Covid 19 Prevention and Management Restrictions, less number of police officers and stewards to control the situation and that more people entered the stadium than what was discussed and arranged by all stakeholders. However, we reiterate that violence, hooliganism, unsporting behaviour and unprofessionalism have no justification. Silver Strikers Football Club, therefore, apologises for all what happened.

Silver Strikers Football Club has meanwhile taken progressive steps to address the matter so that such events do not happen again. The new Board of Directors of Silver Strikers Company is putting in place new systems of management of football matters at Silver Strikers Football Club. There is also a new Supporters Committee at the club and one of the tasks of this committee is to address matters of violence. Silver Strikers Football Club has also embarked on the process of identifying troublemakers to discipline them. As a football club, Sliver Strikers will also be reaching out to law enforcement agencies to share notes on combating violence during matches at Silver Stadium.  Silver Strikers Football Club is also reaching out to fellow Super League Teams to work together to stop all forms of violence during matches and promote professionalism.

As an ambitious and forward-looking professional football entity that strives to strictly observe the laws, rules and regulations of the game, Silver Strikers Football Club is very committed to the promotion of fair play, sportsmanship and professionalism to promote the football image in the country, region and the world
