Silver strikers have won a league double over a resilient MAFCO side that wanted nothing short of 3 points at the banker’s home ground in Area 47, Lilongwe.
After waiting for so long in the sidelines, Frank Banda had a starting berth and it turned out to be magical as he scored the Bankers opener after Silver won a free-kick in the first half of the match.
Maxwell Phodo continued his fine form after scoring a brace with the first coming from a Mark Fodya assist in the first half as he took his tally to 11 goals by the break of the match as Kingsley Nkhonjera pulled one up for MAFCO to take the match 2-1 by halftime.
A second half substitution by Dan Kabwe saw Stenie Davie coming in for Thuso Paipi to add fire powrr upfront, this gave Silver the edge as Stenie set up Phodo for his second goal after two attempts by the league’s top scorer went wide with Stenies’ passes taking Maxwell Phodo to 12 goals from Silvers 16 games.
MAFCO scored another through Kingsley Nkhonjera to take the game within reach of a draw as Silvers substitutions of Rodwell Robert and Prince Phiri backfired and they were withdrawn after Phiri pulled a muscle and Robert couldn’t cope giving way for Mphatso Dzongololo and Foster Bitoni to come in and contain the pressure.
At the end of the match 1st Assistant Coach McDonald Mtetemera said they are happy with the result despite the pressure and physicality of the match.
Nickson Mwase won a second successive man of the match award.
