With sport in Malawi returning tomorrow on the 17th
October as trainings are expected to resume government visited Silver Stadium
again to check the facility’s readiness to host sport earlier today.
Football Association also checked the facility earlier this
week as part of its club licensing mandate to certify facilities that are
capable of hosting the matches.
Through the joint effort of the Ministry of Youth and Sports together
with the Lilongwe City Council, officials from the government agencies inspected
the Silver stadium facility in terms of health preparedness and protocols
involved.
Sports Development Officer in the ministry of Youth and
Sports Macmillan Mwale said “we want all facilities to be standard hence coming
to Silver Stadium to check the accessibilities in relation to health protocols
amidst Covid-19 as sport is sanctioned from tomorrow”. Mwale was accompanied by
City Sports Officer for Lilongwe urban Grace Chihera and Mwanja Mahowe from the
Health department at the council.
Government has previously said they will only allow sport to
resume without spectators but the health protocol inspection gives hope that
fans might be allowed back in stadiums.
