Silver Strikers Developmental Coach Leonard ‘Leo’ Mpulula relishes at the resumption of football with trainings resuming on 17th October 2020. The training resumption which is coming after an 18-month break will help Leo and his backroom staff complete the recruitment exercise for the Reserve Team.
Leo who was hired last February to groom and develop raw talented youngsters into complete footballers for the senior team has said he is well prepared to get back on the pitch having stayed back since football suspension in the country.
“Nevertheless, before the forced break, we had identified some talented youngsters which we will continue to assess before a final selection of 25 man squad”, says Mpulula.
Our focus goes to an under 23 player because our main goal at the developmental team is to groom technically sound players, great talent with top most discipline to feed the senior team.
Silver Strikers Company Limited CEO, Thokozani Chimbali hinted that the Silver Strikers’ philosophy of ‘Umodzi Umodzi’ will have to be cascaded from bottom-up. Thus, coach Leo is tasked to instil the philosophy in the young players before they are passed on to the main team. Coach Leo is well known for player development in Malawian football.
Silver Strikers boasts of a strong reserve team of which in its maiden season of 2020/21, the team finished on position number 3 in the Central Region Premier League; second tier of Malawi’s football.
This year alone Silver Strikers main team has roped in 8 players from the reserve team after impressing Daniel Kabwe’s led technical panel.
That’s a welcome development
