With 11 days to go as Super League of Malawi (SULOM) will be having its Annual General Meeting in Lilongwe, Silver Strikers FC has nominated its former General Secretary Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda for the Legal Advisor post at SULOM.
Nyirenda served as General Secretary for Silver Strikers when it won the Airtel Top 8 in 2017. Prior to that he also served as the clubs Legal Advisor for 10 years making him have enough experience in settling disputes between Silver and other clubs including the local football authorities.
Speaking when announcing his candidature yesterday, Nyirenda said that his role will be to ensure that determinations for disputes that are within the purview of SULOM are released on time and disputes speedily settled. Also highlighting the need to be engaging FAM to ensure that verdicts on disciplinary cases are released without undue delay and that other football related disputes are expeditiously settled or addressed.
‘I know my role as legal advisor for SULOM would be to give impartial and professional legal advice not only on sports law but also other legal disciplines affecting sports. Those who believe that SULOM legal advisor requires one with just an in-depth knowledge about sports law are completely mistaken’, said Nyirenda.
On how he will make sure teams benefit from commercialization of football, Nyirenda has emphasized on the need for SULOM to invest heavily on the money market which under his legal counsel will deter the flow of funds from clubs to SULOM or FAM by having sound investment options so that funds flow should be from SULOM or FAM to clubs, and in turn the players would be the ultimate beneficiaries and they will be incentivized to work harder.
SULOM will be going to polls on the 26th September 2020 in Lilongwe, Malawi, after the post fell vacant when Muhammad Selemani joined the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) last December as an executive committee member.
